Dear Massachusetts School Business Administrator,

The structure for the MASBO School Business Administrator's Bookshelf is supplemental to the ASBO International's Professional Standards and geared specifically to Massachusetts. "ASBO International's Professional Standards" were developed for school business officials by ASBO's Professional Standards Committee. These standards organize the various duties and responsibilities of our profession. This web site is the toolkit, file cabinet, or bookshelf of what every Massachusetts School Business Administrator must reference on a regular or sometimes infrequent basis.

The Board of Directors of the Massachusetts Association of School Business Officials have made available the past issues of its bi-monthly newsletter for reference.

MASBO MATTERS

The Professional Standards are grouped into the following seven areas:

Educational Enterprise;
Financial Resource Management;
Human Resource Management;
Facility Management;
Property Acquisition and Management;
Information Management; and
Ancillary Services (Risk Management, Transportation, and Food Service)

Also included are examples of within this web site or links to the Members Only section of the web site.

ASBO Professional Development Resources

ASBO created Professional Self Assessments to direct and assist the gaining of knowledge by school business administrators nationwide in the above standards. Their web site will direct you through the process of self evaluation, peer evaluation, or superintendent evaluation using an objective evaluation instrument.

"Using ASBO International's Standards to Map Your Professional Growth and Development Plan" ASBO published the article in the October 2002 issue of School Business Affairs magazine.
